The Red River Regional Heritage Fair (RRRHF) was recently held on May 3, 2012 in the Duckworth Centre at the University of Winnipeg. Students from Grades 4, 6 & 9 showcased what they knew of history in Canada with projects on individuals, organizations and events.
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame's Sport heritage Manager Rick Brownlee served as a specialty judge to award the top three sport-related history projects and there were almost two dozen of those to choose from... a difficult task.
Award winners included Logan Hiebert (Grade 4 Linden Christian School) with her project on Cindy Klassen. Logan was able to interview her subject via email and did a fabulous job. Valentin Loaz (Grade 6 J.B. Mitchell School) knew all his facts cold for his project on Gerry James. Qunitana White and Corine Dubon (Grade 9 MBCI) brought a lot of energy and personal experience for their project on the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver.
Congraulations to all the students who celebrated our history and thanks to Marie Zorniak and James Dykstra and their committee of teachers and historians who volunteer countless hours to make it all happen each year!
