Meet Manitoba's Olympic Athletes

The Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba (CSCM) invites the public to meet Manitoba Olympians Desiree Scott, Janine Hanson and Kevin Kowalyk at Polo Park Shopping Centre on Monday, September 10.

The athletes will be greeting fans and signing autographs in the mall’s Centre Court from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Desiree Scott played a pivotal role as a midfielder on the Canadian women’s soccer team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. The team beat France for the bronze medal in extra time, in a historic match that captivated Canadian sports fans across the country. Previously she and the team won gold at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Janine Hanson was a silver medalist at this summer’s Olympic Games as part of the women’s eight rowing team. She also has two World Championship silver medals in women’s eight rowing to her credit, and she placed 8th at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in quad sculls rowing.

Kevin Kowalyk recently finished 6th in men’s double sculls at the 2012 London Olympics. Earlier this year, he placed 9th at the World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland in double sculls, and in 2011 he placed 7th in men’s coxless fours at the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia. Twice he won the Royal Canadian Henley in the men’s single sculls, in 2007 and 2009.

Established in 1997, CSCM is committed to supporting Manitoba’s high performance athletes and coaches.
