The contributions of Aihlin Walker to the sport of Golf span four decades and the club, provincial, national and international scenes. Her passion and commitment to the game of golf has taken her around the globe. Walker’s involvement began in 1965 as a member of Breezy Bend Country Club. She ran the club’s junior programs for the next six years and was elected to the Manitoba Ladies Golf Association Board of Directors in 1975.
Walker’s time with the MLGA saw her serve as Director of Teams, Director of the Tournament and finally Director of Course Rating. She ascended to the Provincial Presidency in 1978 for her two-year term. In 1981 Walker was elected National Course Rating Director for the Canadian Ladies Golf Association (CLGA). Her growing expertise in course rating took her across North America. In 1984 she was elected Vice President of the CLGA and later acted as non-playing captain of the Canadian Team at the World Championship held in Cali, Columbia. Walker also was heavily involved on the Rules Committee and travelled to Hong Kong for the World Amateur Team Championship.
Elected President of the CLGA in 1986, Walker’s two-year term was filled with accomplishment and acclaim on the international stage: Women’s Council, World Amateur Golf Council and their Rules Committee, Commonwealth Golf Matches and CLGA rep. for USGA meetings. She also served as Past-President before returning to her roots to toil at the club level.
In the 90’s Walker devoted her energies to the St. Charles Country Club including Lady Club Captain, Chair of the Play and Rules Committee, Club Vice President and an integral part of the du Maurier Classic, the Xerox Manitoba Open Women’s Pro-AM and the 1996 Canadian Sr. Ladies Championship. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Sports Federation early in the decade. Walker’s dedicated volunteerism has also touched the 1999 Pan Am Games, where she chaired the Festivals Division. She has also been involved with a golf tournament and fundraiser for the Grace Hospital for many years. Aihlin Walker was inducted into the Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame in 2004.
