Pegi Morgan-HayesIn 1975, Pegi Morgan-Hayes was undergoing rehabilitation after becoming paralysed when she was recruited by the Manitoba Wheelchair Association (MWSRA) to undertake the difficult jobs of fundraising and finance.

Starting as a Director with MWSRA in 1975, she rose to President in 1982 before moving on to become Executive Director. She worked to transform the MWSRA from its small base in Winnipeg into a truly provincial body. Morgan-Hayes also served as a director of the Canadian Wheelchair Sport Association from 1982-94, becoming a Vice-President for Marketing in 1984 until 1989. From 1986-89, she was chairperson of the marketing committee of the Canadian Federation of Sport Organizations.

In 1985, she initiated and developed a fitness and recreation program for physically disabled children that continued to grow and expand across Canada with the goal of promoting independence and integration of disabled children into the community and school based programs. The following year, she helped integrate disabled children into the University of Manitoba Summer Sport Camps.

Morgan-Hayes served as provincial co-ordinator for the Rick Hansen Man-in-Motion World Tour in 1987. She was responsible for all aspects of the tour in Manitoba, including all promotions, publicity, functions and fundraising. The Manitoba portion of the tour ended up raising $600,000. With the funds raised, projects included Parks and Recreation Departments, universities, the provincial Department of Education and Manitoba Wheelchair Sport with the goal of providing direction for schools and communities to become more involved in the integration of children with physical disabilities into community activities.
